not only educating the students and parents, but all of our residents in the richmond district. and about two years ago i stood with our dpw director mohammed nuru and neighbors and parents as we announced in a major greater green project in the city that was hopefully a model for other neighborhoods as well as argon parents and community transformed ugly concrete into something really beautiful and a great teaching tool as well. there is an edible garden there now, a great mural, and they haven't stopped there. they've continued to green their school and the neighborhood is involved people in this process. most specifically the greater green program enabled parents, teachers and students to transform their neighborhood into a more environmentally conscious community and school. the progress also continues with a community challenge grant that they were awarded and working with the department of public works to install a lively garden on cabrillo street filled with native plants for everyone to enjoy. they have an edible school yard. they are working -- i was playing on their re

and so i think that we have a lot of educating to do. in my office we do a lot of cyber bullying training in our schools and it's amazing how much access some kids have to the internet at a really young age. they have iphones. they're on the internet. they have or smartphones. they have computers in the bedroom and parent it is never over the shoulder to see what is going online. there is a lot of unrestricted access to the internet and the internet has put it on another level and one push of a button and everybody in the school will have a picture or hear it and the outcome of that is -- it would be not just reconciling relationships or restorative justice or some other way between two or three or four people but now you have a whole study body that has been tempered or tainted with something that goes against the individual who was a target of that, so the internet working more strongly with the partners and the providers of the internet and there is awareness and education, but back to the student assemblies that we do it is amazing a

that's what we naed to educate ourselves on. as i've said and if i have identified all the different players, it does take a village to raise our kids. it does require us to understand not only what happens in the classroom, what happens on the school grounds, what happens in programs that we all cherish so much on and off our school sites, it's online and it's off-line that we also have to concern ourselves with. it is with kids that have both parents and kids without the parents at home that it's happening. we need to embrace a full court program on this because the numbers tell us and dictate to us that we have to have this high level strong fierce collaboration to end bullying and to make sure it doesn't proceed into its worst stages. and so i want to just thank everyone for this collaboration, i know our human rights commission, theresa, is here, i know commissioner is here as well and all of the bay area to work together to utilize the resources that our justice department is offering. their guidance and leadership as well
